Happy Labor Day! I hope everyone is enjoying a day off and if you’re working today, thank you for your hard work!
Today I’m thankful for the following:
- I’m thankful for a day off. So far, I’ve enjoyed Labor Day by making breakfast, going for a 5 mile run with my husband, and doing laundry. This evening we’re going to cook-out with my in-laws for dinner.
- I’m thankful for a good friend and his expertise regarding HVACs. Our friend Robert has helped us diagnose broken coils/leaks in two of our air conditioning units and he is hopefully going to help us fix them which will save us alot of money. I’m very thankful for the time and effort he has put in to help us.
- I’m grateful for my health. I recently quit taking a medication I’ve been on for nearly a decade and it looks like a side effect of that combined with exercise and a healthy diet is finally helping me to lose weight. I’m at my lowest weight since 2007 and feel great!
- I’m thankful for a short week at work. One of the great things about a 3 day weekend is a 4 day week!
- I’m thankful for the labor of everyone throughout history who we should remember today on Labor Day.
Have a great week!
Welcome to my weekly Thankful Monday post.
Things are a little stressful at work today but I’m going to try to remember to be mindful and grateful for a good life so here’s my top 5 for today:
- I’m thankful for 7 years together and 1 year of marriage with my wonderful husband. He is a good man and strives to make me happy. He also makes me strive to be a better person and treats me right. We celebrated our 7 years anniversary and 1 year of marriage on Saturday and Sunday respectively and the occasion makes me so grateful for our time together and hopeful for our future together.
- I’m thankful for lovely weather this weekend. We were able to spend alot of time outside and get alot done on our house and condo. I love getting my Vitamin D!
- I’m thankful for reunions. My friend Cris was in town this weekend and I hadn’t seen her since February so it was wonderful to spend time with her and my other friends after a long week of work.
- I’m thankful for another opportunity to run the Charlottesville Women’s 4 Miler . Every year, the race gets harder and harder to get into. This year, race registration was full in 5 hours so I’m thankful that my alarm clock woke me up so I could register at 5 AM and I’m glad I got in. This will be my 6th year in a row to run the race!
- I’m thankful for technology. I was able to share pictures of our new house with friends and family all over the country by simply taking pictures with my phone and posting them to Facebook. We live in a wonderful age where you can still be so close to the ones you love even when they are far away.
Have a wonderful week!
P.S. I already feel better after writing this post! 😉
Good morning and happy Thankful Monday!
Here’s what I’m thankful for this 3rd day of June, 2013:
- I’m thankful that God has blessed my friends Chris and Cara with a baby boy. They are expecting him in July and I got to help celebrate him this weekend at Cara’s baby shower! It was a blast…we shared great food and cake, made onesies, created scrapbook pages, and watched Cara open lots of wonderful gifts. I’m wishing her an easy and safe labor and delivery!
- I’m thankful for my cats. We found a mouse in our house this weekend, and ever since, Eva and Revolver Ocelot have been busy tracking it down! Thank goodness for my kitties!
- I’m thankful for a very helpful mother-in-law and father-in-law who helped us do some work on our condo this weekend and have provided endless advice on our renovations.
- I’m grateful for all of the men and women out there who have sacrificed and continue to sacrifice for this country’s freedom, especially those who have given their lives or become disabled while in service. Ben and I ran the 4 the Wounded 5K on Saturday morning to support the cause to help our wounded service men and women. I’m also thankful to my work for providing me with a free entry to the race.
- Lastly, I’m thankful for the opportunity to see alot of family this coming weekend.
Have a great day!
Good morning and welcome to my Thankful Monday post!
Today, I’m thankful for the following:
- I’m thankful for a wonderful day with friends yesterday. First, we had breakfast at the Tavern on the James and then we went to the James River Brewing Company that I’ve been wanting to try for a long time. It was great company, great food, and great fun!
- I’m thankful that I have amazing women in my life who are all willing to put in the effort to keep in touch. Friday night, I met up with several of the ladies I used to work with at VGT for dinner and drinks. It was so nice to catch up with everyone and I’m always grateful to have another Girls’ Night to look forward to!
- I’m thankful to have so many friends who are pregnant or who have recently had babies. Not only am I thankful that their pregnancies all seem to be going well, but I’m also so happy to see so many wonderful friends bringing new life into this world.
- I’m thankful that Spring is here! Although we had about 3 inches of snow last night, we had a beautiful, sunny, and warm day on Saturday that Ben and I enjoyed by running 5 miles along the river. I think this is the last of the snow we will have this season.
- I’m thankful again for the opportunity to work from home today. As I mentioned before, we had snow overnight and it is supposed to continue to snow until this evening so I’m very glad I have a job that allows me the flexibility to work from home so that I don’t have to risk my safety and others’ on the roads.
Have a terrific week!
Happy Thankful Monday!
Today, I am thankful for the following:
- I am thankful I was able to finish the Charlottesville Ten Miler on Saturday despite the rain and the difficult hills. I can honestly say that I think this was the hardest race I’ve ever run. I’m not sure if it was the rain, the hills, my mindset, or being exhausted from the time change and traveling the previous weekend, but I doubted my will to finish it several times during the second half of the race. I was so glad when I crossed the finish line and I am grateful that my body and mind were able to get me that far.
- I am thankful for a nice relaxing weekend with my family. Saturday, we made dinner, bloody marys, and Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes with Ian, Sarah, Collin, and Ben and then Sunday we had a nice dinner with Ian, Sarah, Brandon, Peter, and Phyllis. I’m thankful for wonderful loving people in my life.
- I am thankful to hear some good news from a friend last week. It’s not my place to say what their news is, but I know they have had a couple of years of trouble and they now seem to be past the end of that tunnel. Many people’s prayers have been answered!
- I’m thankful that I have a close family. My 2 aunts, 2 uncles, cousin, and great aunt visited my mom this past week at the beach for Spring Break and I’m so happy that all of my family makes the effort to spend time with one another. I’m also thankful I got to spend some virtual time with them via Skype!
- I’m thankful for a new week and a fresh start. Last week was a little rough at work, but I’m hoping my anxiety will subside and I will be able to kick ass and take names again in the office this week!
Have a wonderful week!
Good morning and welcome to this week’s Thankful Monday blog post!
Today I am thankful for the following:
- I’m thankful that Spring is almost here and we are already starting to see some pretty purple and yellow flowers blooming. Although we haven’t had a ton of snow this winter, it has felt so dark, cold, and long so the idea that Spring and longer days are on the horizon makes me so happy!
- I’m thankful that our longest training run for the Charlottesville Ten Miler is finished. We did 11 miles yesterday (ok I only did 10.8). and it feels so good to know that the race will be shorter!
- I’m thankful that we finally have a house under contract. I know it is not ours yet, but it’s the closest we’ve gotten so far to finding our new home. My fingers are crossed that inspection, appraisal, and closing all go as planned.
- I’m thankful for a weekend that was filled with fun and many friends, including Nita, Sarah D., Collin, Sarah W., Scott, Kennith, Courtney, Deb, Robert, and Crystal. I also got to see lots of family this weekend including my sister-in-law, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and nephew.
- I’m thankful for sunshine because it makes me feel so good and happy!
I hope you have a great week filled with lots of sunshine!
Good morning and happy February! Can you believe we are already in the second month of 2013?!?! It seems like January flew by!
Here’s what I’m thankful for this week:
- I’m thankful for an invitation to a Super Bowl party last night that gave me the opportunity to spend time with new and old friends!
- I’m thankful for a
mother-in-lawVirginia Mom who is so crafty and planned a day with family to make Valentine’s Day Houses! It was tasty, fun, and best of all, I got to be crafty with my family! - I’m thankful for a husband that enjoys running with me (and motivates me to keep from quitting). Yesterday morning we ran 9 miles in preparation for the Charlottesville Ten Miler in March!
- I’m thankful for the opportunity to get to spend time with so many good friends and family last week (running with Becky and Ben on Sunday, restaurant week with Kristen, Tim, and Ben on Wednesday, dinner with Ashley and Dana on Thursday, Shopping with Sarah on Saturday, making Valentine’s Day houses with Peter, Phyllis, Ben, Robin, Sarah, Abby, and Elise on Sunday, and James’ Super Bowl party last night with lots of new friends and Kelly and Marian who I miss so much). My life is certainly rich because of the wonderful people who are in it!
- I’m thankful that for the past couple of weeks, I’ve finally started to feel like my happy self again with less anxiety and worry and more happiness and joy. Maybe these posts are helping! 🙂
Good morning! Welcome to this week’s thankful Monday blog post!
Today, I am thankful for the following:
- I’m thankful for the fit body and sufficient health that allowed me to run 8 miles and walk another yesterday morning with my husband and a new friend. We are all training for the Charlottesville 10 Miler this spring and we had a great training run!
- I am thankful for the various free educational opportunities out on the web. I’ve been taking online courses, lectures, and seminars from Code Academy, Coursera, and I Will Teach You To Be Rich since the new year started and I am learning so much valuable information as well as building my experience base, and it’s all FREE!
- I am thankful for birthdays because they give us an excuse to celebrate and a chance to come together with new and old friends.
- I’m thankful for Netflix and Comcast On Demand that allow me to escape my worries and stress temporarily at the drop of a hat by having thousands of movies available. This weekend, I watched Total Recall, The Switch, Man of the House, and Insidious.
- I’m thankful for the fresh start to do better and live fuller that Monday brings us each week!
Have a great week!
Good morning and welcome to week 2 of 2013 and today’s Thankful Monday post!
Today I am thankful for the following:
- I am thankful for a job where I can work from home on occasion. I was sick with a cold most of last week and luckily I was able to work from home in my pajamas on the couch rather than come to work and infect others while an endless stream of mucous flowed from my nose or waste my precious PTO!
- I am thankful that for now, my body seems to be getting over this cold quite quickly. It’s been less than a week since I started feeling badly and with the exception of some leftover congestion, I’m already feeling pretty much back to my old self.
- I am thankful for a husband that went to the grocery store Friday after work and bought me the ingredients to make my mom’s homemade chicken noodle soup that always makes me feel better when I’m sick.
- I am thankful my brother made it home safely from South Africa and had a good trip.
- I am thankful my sister has found a job at Starbucks and seems to be excelling at it.
And as a bonus,
I am thankful that the Texans beat the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday in the first round of the NFL playoffs! Go Texans!
Have a great week!
A couple weeks ago, I joined my dad, brother, and sister for an impromptu trip to New York City to see the Houston Texans play the New York Jets for Monday Night Football. It was an amazing trip and I absolutely loved getting to spend a weekend with my family. The only way it could have been better was if my mom and husband were there but mom had to work and Ben was on a fishing trip in North Carolina.
We all met up at the airport on a Saturday afternoon. Mikey flew in from Columbia, South Carolina, I flew in from Charlottesville, and Dad and Carrie flew in from Houston. After a wild goose chase around Laguardia Airport and bumping into some other Texan fans in town for the game, we made it by taxi to our hotel in New York City. We got settled in and then sat down at the hotel bar to discuss the evening’s plans over drinks.
Since the Longhorns were playing West Virginia, we decided to find a pub to watch the game. Mikey had heard about a place in New York called Hill Country Barbecue Market that Texas Exes go to watch the games so we headed that way. Let me tell you, BEST.DECISION.EVER! This place was straight outta Texas, complete with Shiner and Lone Star beer, Blue Bell ice cream, tons of Texas decor, and authentic Texas barbecue! Mikey and I, having not lived in our dear home state for years, were in HEAVEN! They even had their own Texas flag, a Pearl Brewery sign (located in San Antonio where I went to college, I attended one of the most amazing parties of my college career there), and the waiters all wore Longhorn shirts for the game.
We stuffed ourselves with barbecue and cheered on the Longhorns over 4 buckets of Lone Star beer! Unfortunately the Longhorns lost, but man was it a good game and you never would have known you were in New York by the inside of that bar. Almost every person was sporting burnt orange and after each touch down, the entire bar was yelling the University of Texas Fight Song at the top of their lungs. Mikey swore we could have won had he thrown more chairs!
The next day, it was raining so we picked up some cheap, broken umbrellas. Of course we didn’t know they were broken when we bought them. Mikey found a disgusting green paperclip on the streets of New York City that was just what he needed to MacGuyver his green umbrella to stay open. Since it matched the umbrella perfectly, we dubbed it the “Green pooperclip of destiny”. Pooperclip was the appropriate term since that’s probably what it had on it after laying in the streets of New York.
After standing in like in Time Square, we bought tickets to Chaplin on Broadway. It was our last choice (if you ever go to New York, make sure to buy your Broadway musical tickets well in advance), but the play was spectacular and we learned alot about Charlie Chaplin that we hadn’t known. We had time to kill before the play, so we headed to an Irish pub near Time Square called the Pig ‘n Whistle where we dined on appetizers, drank beer served by an authentic Irish bartender, and watched NFL. We then headed to see Chaplin at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre which was amazing and I’d highly recommend to anyone looking to see a Broadway musical. Afterward, we found McGee’s Restaurant and Pub which is the bar that MacLaren’s Pub in the show How I Met Your Mother was based on. There we had more drinks and then headed to Stand Up NY, a famous comedy club where tons of comedic actors got their start doing stand up. There was a 2 drink minimum so we drank cocktails and laughed until we cried.
The next day we all put on our Texans gear to represent our home team. Carrie wanted to see the 9/11 Memorial and the Empire State Building, so we navigated our way through the subway to get to Manhattan. I hadn’t been to the site of the World Trade Center 9/11 terrorist attacks since 2005 when they were still cleaning up debris so I was blown away by the memorial that now sits in its place. Although it is still not complete, the memorial and north and south pools were quite a site. It was humbling to see the spot where thousands of innocent Americans died and I was thankful for the opportunity to honor them.
After that, we headed to the Empire State Building where we did what my dad would describe as a lot of standing in line.
We finally made it to the 86th floor after all of that waiting and it was definitely worth it. I went to the top of the Empire State Building back in 2005, but that was at night time so it was cool to go up during the day and see the city from so high! We splurged and joined the 102 club, going all the way to the 102nd floor!
After all of that elevator riding, we were famished, so we walked to Keens Steakhouse for lunch. Keens has the largest collection of churchwarden pipes in the world and their ceiling and walls were lined with them! The food was amazing too and we were stuffed after dining on steak and a fine Cabernet Sauvignon. After that, dad needed a rest before the game, so we headed back to the Doubletree to relax for a while. I took advantage of the downtime to enjoy a Saint Arnold’s Oktoberfest that my awesome sister brought me all the way from Houston (you can’t get Saint Arnold’s beer outside of Texas or Louisiana). I also attempted to help my dad log into his iPad, but he forgot the password and I have to say it was quite comical watching him try to remember it!
Soon it was time to head to see our Texans beat the New York Jets at Met Life Stadium. First, we headed to Stout to pre-game where we met some fellow Texans fans going to the game. After seeing some other patrons doing Irish Car Bomb shots, we decided to do one as a family and convinced my dad it was a good idea. Then we headed to Penn Station where we took the train to New Jersey where Met Life Stadium is located. We met more Texans fans from Houston on the train and had a great time talking football with them!
When we got to the stadium, everyone was pumped. There were alot more Texans fans there than we expected so there was lots of cheering and shouting of “Go Texans!” every time we passed other fans in their Texans jerseys! The game was great and the Texans beat the Jets 23 to 17. It was a pretty close game, but our undefeated Texans pulled through!
It was an amazing weekend and I’m so thankful for the opportunity to make such great memories with my loved ones. A special shout out goes to my dad for footing the bill! I can’t wait for the next Elsaifi adventure!
